Three Things We Like about the Google Raj Kapoor Doodle

It is said that the best compliments are given by those people who have just been introduced to you. While the general Indian diaspora might forget that it is Raj Kapoor’s ninetieth birth anniversary tomorrow, Google has rolled out a doodle in his honour. Here are the three things that we liked about it:

#1 It Captures the Essence of the Man

Raj Kapoor’s smile and the face that lit up is probably the most iconic aspect of Bollywood.  This was just one of the many things that made the man an industry unto himself. It seems just yesterday that this tramp made his way into our lives, and Google gives his legacy a fresh new, digital lease of life. .

#2 It Captures the Romance

Probably  the greatest romance in Indian cinema, Raj Kumar and Nargis acted in a couple of films, but both did end up with each other. There is still a theory going on that the RK banner man and woman are actually an ode to Raj Kapoor and Nargis.

#3 It Captures an Industry Gone By

The watercolor look, the rain in the poster, and a hark to the landmark pose that made Bollywood understand what a scorching onscreen romance could be. ‘Nuff said.
